The victim is alleged to have been raped yesterday around 04:30 hours by Michael Zulu,
of Ndekes’ Presidential, who sneaked into the victim’s room after her fiancé stepped out.
It is believed that the victim had gone out clubbing at Club Ebony with her fiancée, only
identified as Shepard. After partying, the couple went to a named guest house, where
Shepard booked a room before leaving the victim sleeping.

Copperbelt police commanding officer Sharon Zulu said while the victim was in the room, Zulu, who was booked in the next room, noticed that the drunken victim was alone. Ms Zulu said the suspect took advantage of the situation and forcibly opened one of the sliding windows to the victim’s room and gained access. “The suspect had carnal
knowledge of the victim, who woke up and asked what the suspect was doing,” she said.

Ms Zulu said the victim opted to remain quiet for fear of being harmed but, instead, she took a photograph of him. She said after Zulu finished raping the victim, he dressed up
and left the room through the door. Ms Zulu said the victim later woke up around 07:00 hours and reported the matter to the receptionist, who helped identify the suspect after seeing the clothes on the photograph that she (the victim) had captured.

She said the matter was reported at Esther Lungu Police Post before officers visited the
guest house. Ms Zulu said workers at the guest house called the suspect on
phone following a request from the police and he showed up. She said after police
apprehended and questioned Zulu, he admitted having taken advantage of the victim’s state and raped her. Ms Zulu said a medical report form was issued to the victim
and the suspect is currently detained.
