Mapaseka Koetle-Nyokong (30) is soft spoken, loves talking, however in the e.tv’s Scandal she portrays an uncultured character who is always obsessed with bad intentions. She plays a dramatic, unfiltered character who’s always up to no good – five days a week!, established a food company, got married, blessed with a child, but she remained the same softspoken, the same person she was when she entered the TV industry. Growing up in Rocklands, Bloemfontein she had known she wanted to be an artist. “By the time I got to high school I knew I wanted to be an actress. I had no plan B,” she told Move magazine.
Because of limited opportunities in her area, she relocated to Johannesburg, though even in such a big city full of opportunities, it wasn’t ease. She was brought up by a single parent Susan, who couldn’t afford to send her to university. I applied for a student’s loan, and was able to head to the city of dreams 11 years ago,” she said. Mapaseka studied at AFDA and City Varsity.
She then started auditioning for roles, and kick-started her career in low-cost Mzansi Magic movies.“It feels amazing and I am grateful,” she said. She vividly remembers her debut appearance on Scandal. There on set were all these people I grew up watching. It was my greatest memory all I wanted was to be on a soapie, and it happened to be on one of the biggest on TV,” she said. Her character Dintle was a young mother who was willing to sell her child for money. She was introduced to the audiences 6 years ago, she thought it was going to be a short stint, but it went on until to date. She has grown up, and so has her character. Controversial as Dintle might be, I am loving the storylines they rust me to play,” said Pasi as she is affectionately known.
She added that it takes good behaviour to be able to last long in the industry. The fact is that I respect my work, and others. I am always on time, I don’t give people problems on set. Those things get you far in life,” she said. She got married five years ago and got blessed with a three-year-old daughter Nema. She doesn’t like to talk a lot about her husband, she is happy with that, they both started a food business. She loves being simple, posting beautiful pictures of herself at the restaurant, her celeb friends would come over to support her, and also share pictures at her place.
“It is hard, and at times I feel like giving up. Sometimes I feel like running away, but I am learning a lot and I won’t give up,” said. She advised those in business not to loose heart, saying business is like raising a child, and that they are not alone. The couple opened their second coffee shop in Sandton in 2019, which became her 30th birthday present.
