Six of 22 suspects who escaped from legal custody at Matero police station have been recaptured.
Police have stated that they captured five the previous day’s and have since captured a sixth, David Nondo in Matero yesterday.
Zambia Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga says that Nondo was facing a charge of theft and has since been recaptured.
“ Regarding the escape from legal custody in which 22 escaped from Matero police cells, moment at 0840 hours, policere-captured one more suspect Male David Nondo in Matero who was facing a charge of Theft. The total number of thosere-captured is now Six. We want to thank the residents of Matero and the surrounding communities for the cooperation we’re so far receiving from them in resolving thismatter.This will indeed go a long way in making the areas safe to live in, ” he said.
Recently, around 22 suspects facing various offences among then aggravated robbery, murder and theft escaped from legal custody at Matero police station.
The police on duty on the fateful day was detained as the ordeal was described at negligent.
