The eagerly awaited Shaka Ilembe now includes more Mzansi talent. The amazing Dawn Thandeka King has joined the cast of the Bomb Productions TV drama series.
Meet the Cast of Shaka Ilembe’s Epic Historical Drama Series!
In the drama series, the actress will play Shaka Zulu’s aunt Mkabayi kaJama, who was regarded as one of the most powerful ladies of her day. Producer Bongumusa Zungu, who told Daily Sun that they required a woman of Dawn’s strength to join the series, corroborated the information.
The creator claims that Mkabayi not only helped Shaka Zulu accede to the throne but also planned his assassination.
Dawn responded to the news by telling the publication that it is a significant position for her. She wanted to be hands-on and assisted kings in taking their seats. Therefore, having this responsibility is important to me as an artist.
Nomzamo Mbatha, who plays Queen Nandi, Shaka’s respected mother, and who also produces the show, is one among the series’ many A-list actors. Thembinkosi Mthembu, who plays King Dingiswayo, and Wiseman Mncube, who plays King Zwide, are other members. Lemogang Tsipa (the adult monarch) and newcomer Ntando Zondi take turns portraying the young and old Shaka (boy king).
Nomzamo Mbatha expressed his excitement for the series by saying, “I am honored to bring the colossus that is Queen Nandi to life. People that helped their people better understand who they are by educating them about their origins will be remembered by history. I consider myself privileged to be a part of a project that is far larger than ourselves and to present this narrative in our own unique way.
The late addition to the cast, Queen Bhibhi KaSompisi Ntuli, who is King Senzangakhona, the father of Shaka, is being played by Ntando Duma.
The first release date for the series will be revealed at a later time; it will occur in 2023.
“Being able to bring this important story to the screen with such stellar talent speaks to the heart of MultiChoice’s ongoing commitment and investment in our local entertainment industry. We are committed to telling great African stories and this is a proudly African series told through the lens of Africans for the very first time,” commented Yolisa Phahle, CEO of General Entertainment & Connected Video at MultiChoice.
This follows the cancellation of DiepCity after two successful seasons. The show is produced by Black Brain, who stated, “DiepCity had always been planned as a two-year production in collaboration with Mzansi Magic, and the deal is now about to expire. Mzansi Magic made a conscious and calculated decision to fill that time slot by providing viewers with a compelling program that would keep them riveted to their screens.”
Mandla N added the following: “DiepCity, a popular television show in South Africa, introduced viewers to interesting characters that fans found to be quite resonant. Fans of DiepCity have contributed significantly to the show’s success over the past two years, and we are grateful for their help.”
