Reebok Finally Responds To AKA’s Claims #ReebokMustFall

The country applauded AKA for achieving a deal that was said to be a first for Africa. However, when the rapper dropped a bombshell alleging that Reebok did not pay him a single cent for the SneAKA collaboration, his fans were up in arms calling for the companies downfall.

Although the Megacy was left infuriated at the news and a possible ‘exploitation’ on Reebok’s side, the rapper dismissed the hashtag by saying “Reebok mustn’t fall.” Instead he said that he has learnt his lesson and told his fans who are in possession of the sneakers to hold onto them as they will be a collectors item one day.

Disappointed at the manner in which AKA aired out his issues and concerns, Reebok said in a statement issued out to IOL Entertainment that they satisfied all obligations that were stipulated in the contract.

Although the rapper said the SneAKA collaboration was not contractual, it was their partnership as an ambassador that had an existing contract.

A part of the statement reads, “In October 2019, we executed a successful launch of the Reebok SneAKA. Upon entering into the relationship, both parties were happy with the agreement, and the terms of the launch were not disputed.”

The sneaker company says that they informed the rapper that the contract which expired in December last year, was not going to be renewed due to changes in their strategy and that they were looking to go a different route other than the one they had with AKA.

“Reebok met all of our contractual obligations related to the launch. Earlier this year, Reebok communicated with AKA and his management that due to shift in strategy, we would not be able to renew his contract as an ambassador for the brand,” the statement reads.

Expressing their disappointment at some of the things AKA said, they are still looking to work with the rapper in future, however fans are not sure if Supa Mega is keen on that.

“Reebok is thus very disappointed to be learning of the issues raised on social media, as we believed the relationship to still be on a strong footing to negotiate potential future deals,” said the company.

Despite the drama that ensued and the misunderstandings, a disheartened AKA says he has no regrets. He is content that he fulfilled his dream of owning a SneAKA, even though it was at his expense.
