President Hakainde Hichilema is set to attend the Extraordinary SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government in Luanda, Angola, today.
The summit will be presided over by Angolan President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, who also serves as the Chair of SADC.
According to a statement from Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Stanley Kakubo, this meeting will build upon the virtual Extraordinary SADC Summit that was convened on October 31, 2023.
Prior to the summit, an Extraordinary Organ Troika Summit, chaired by President Hichilema, will take place today.
The Heads of State will focus on discussing the impending deployment of the SADC Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and review the report of the Chiefs of Defence Forces of the Quadripartite Members on Coordination and Harmonization of Regional Peace Initiatives in the Eastern DRC.
The summit will be preceded by the Extraordinary Ministerial Committee of the Organ, which took place yesterday.
As the Chairperson of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence, and Security Cooperation, President Hichilema will join other regional leaders at the summit to work together towards promoting a more peaceful, secure, and stable region.
After his engagements, President Hichilema is expected to return to Zambia on November 4, 2023.
