The accident happened on Friday last week at around 22:00 hours at Ndeke railway crossing.
Dube Arthur aged 41 reported on behalf of Zambia Railways Limited Company that an unknown male person aged between 20 and 25, was hit by a passenger train Northbound and died on the spot.
Copperbelt province Commanding Officer Sharon Zulu said the accident happened after a Passenger Train Number 601 which was North bound and driven by George Phiri hit an unknown man who is believed to have been on the rail line some 50 meters from Ndeke rail cross level going to the North direction.
She said the deceased was cut into two pieces and died on the spot.
Mrs Zulu said the body has been deposited in Ndola Teaching Hospital mortuary where it awaits identification, postmortem and burial.
She said police have since opened an inquiry file into the accident.
