ABSA Bank’s Chief Executive Officer, Mizinga Melu, was honored with the Southern African Development Community (SADC) CEO of the Year award at the recent African Bank 4.0 Awards in Johannesburg, South Africa. The award recognizes outstanding leaders who navigate complex challenges, drive growth, and steer their organizations to remarkable success while leaving a lasting impact on the diverse SADC region.
This prestigious accolade aims to celebrate and acknowledge prominent figures in the Fintech, banking, and financial services sector within the SADC region. At the same event, Mwangala Muyoyeta from Zambia Industrial Commercial Bank (ZICB) was recognized as the best Chief Information Officer (CIO) in the SADC, and Mukwandi Chibesakunda, Chief Executive Officer of Zambia National Commercial Bank (Zanaco), received the Zambia CEO of the Year award.
In her remarks following the award, Ms. Melu highlighted the importance of women competing at the international level. She expressed her honor at being named the best CEO in the SADC region, emphasizing that such recognition is not only a personal achievement but also a significant milestone for Zambia. Ms. Melu hoped that her award would serve as an inspiration for youth and women, encouraging them to believe in their capabilities to compete globally, particularly in the corporate world. She attributed her success to her colleagues at Absa Zambia and Absa Group, acknowledging their immense contribution.
Zambia’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Mazuba Monze, lauded Ms. Melu’s accomplishments, stating that she serves as a role model for young Zambians, urging her to continue her outstanding work. Representing Ms. Monze, Deputy High Commissioner Inonge Mwenya conveyed heartfelt congratulations to Ms. Melu, applauding her as an exceptional ambassador for Zambia, elevating the country’s profile beyond its borders. The High Commissioner encouraged Ms. Melu to persevere, recognizing her influence in inspiring the youth to follow in her footsteps.
