D’banj Officially Cleared Of Rape Charge

D'banj, Seyitan, Alleged rape

D’Banj has officially been cleared of rape charges after accuser Seyitan Babatayo withdrew her case against him…

According to court documents Seyitan – who accused the singer of raping her back in 2018, and followed up with claims he kidnapped her, agreed to settle out of court, although she did not disclose why.

Police have also stated the case was closed as there was “insufficient evidence” against the star to proceed.

However NGO Stand To End Rape (STER) – who pledged their support to Seyitan since she went public with the claims- has released a statement slamming her decision to withdraw and settle her charges.

“As a social justice organisation and women advocates, out-of-court settlements go against STER’s policy. Such settlements, in our experience, often involve an asymmetry of power between the accuser and the victim.

They also insinuate that something is amiss.

“More importantly, while private settlements are usually in civil disputes, they are however not applicable to criminal cases, particularly where a felony is alleged to have been committed, only the state has the authority to discontinue a criminal investigation and prosecution.

STER also affirmed how they went above and beyond to assist Seyitan, even going as far as to make a down payment for her new apartment on her behalf.

Correction: There was an omission of the word 'thousand' in the amount donated by Nigerians through Wine & Whine NG. We would like to clarify that "all accounts of expenditure on the One Million and Six Hundred Thousand Naira" have been accounted for. Thank you. #StandtoEndRape

Outspoken blogger and journalist Kemi Olunloyo has also thrown shade in Seyitan’s direction.

“It is important to pay close attention to real accusations vs fake accusations so as to protect the innocent rape victims,” she shared on social media.

A statement released read “Finally D’banj vindicated !!! Nigerian police clears D’banj 100% after fully carrying out their investigation and in parallel Seyitann pleaded and withdrew her petition. We really need to take a close look at all the rape accusations out there and be able to differentiate between real cases and fake accusations. So that real rape victims are protected and innocent accusers are vindicated. Please let us build a better Nigeria and protect or citizens. #Say no to rape” Here are legal documents I obtained in the case and the recommendation of @policeng I implore the Nigerian mainstream media to get more involved in investigative journalism especially RAPES. It is important to protect the innocently accused. #kemitalksrape #drkemiolunloyo

Does this mean D’Banj has finally been vindicated of all the allegations, or is there more to the story?
