AN 82- year–old man of Chinsali district in Northern Province is another victim of being accused of sorcery and has since been beaten to death on suspicion that he bewitched the 16- year–old daughter of the suspect.
Police have since arrested 42- year–old Sekwila Mwila who beat up to death with a stick the deceased.
Northern Province Commanding officer Lucky Buumba said Mr Sipanje, the now deceased was on his way to visit his relatives in another area when he found the issue of him being accused of being a wizard.
“ Brief facts are that, the now deceased Shombe Sipanje was a village headman who was on his way to visit hisrelatives.When he reached Chilasa village, he found the issue of him being accused to be a wizard that he bewitched Blessings Mwila aged 16 the who’s epileptic, daughter to Sekwila Mwila the suspect, ” she said.
She said at around 1400 hours whilst the now deceased was at the house of Nebert Kampamba within Chilasa village, the suspect went with a wooden stick and started beating the victim until he fell down and died.
“ Acting on the report, officers visited the scene and the findings were as follows; the dead body was still at the scene lying down facing upward. Physical examination observed were, broken left hand, a cut on the left hand, multiple cuts on left side of the face, swollen head and bleeding from the mouth, ”
“ A broken wooden stick allegedly used in the act was found at the scene beside the dead body. The body was later picked from the scene and deposited in the Mortuary at Chinsali District Hospital awaiting postmortem examination, ” she said.
